this is the best fall girls night craft ππ
Detailed Instructions below!
Quilted Pumpkin Sweatshirts
- Gather some fabric swatches and cut them into 3x3” squares
- Pin the edges together. If you are using fabric with a design, put the pattern side facing the other swatch when you pin them. You want to stitch on the non-patterned side.
- Once you have a line of squares that match the width you want your pumpkin to be, turn them upside down and iron the seams so that they lay flat
- Repeat this process until you have enough lines of squares to cover the length you want your pumpkin to be
- Sew all the strips together. Pin the edges with the patterned sides facing each other and use a single stitch to join them. Repeat this process until all are joined into one large piece.
- Once you have a solid rectangle of quilted pieces, sketch out your pumpkin shape on the backside of the fabric. Go around your traced pumpkin with a 1 inch border that you will use for a seam allowance.
- Cut out your pumpkin along the seam allowance border. Cut tiny lines into the seam allowance border to make folding the seam down easier. Don’t cut further than where your outline begins. Fold the fabric down to the outline of your pumpkin shape and pin.
- For the quilted look you will need a foam quilt backing. Use your pinned pumpkin shape as a stencil to cut out the backing. Pin this to your pumpkin.
- You can now begin sewing around the border of the pumpkin to attach the backing and close the seams. Using a zig zag stitch is a fun way to add texture!
- Once your pumpkin has been formed, you can go up and down with a zig zag stitch giving your pumpkin ridges. This will make it look extra puffy.
- Now that your pumpkin is fully assembled, begin sewing it directly onto your sweatshirt. I used a single stitch around the outside to attach so it was less visible.
- And you’re done!! If any excess quilt backing or fabric sticks out carefully trim it back. When washing turn the sweatshirt inside out.
